What Sports Should Be
Exciting, collaborative, fun, and fair -- that's what sports should be and what we strive to achieve at The Catherine Cook School. In addition to a 360° physical education program that builds skills, instills lifelong health and fitness habits, and encourages sportsmanship, we offer competitive co-curricular team sports at the Middle School level. After-school classes and clubs provide additional opportunities for students to explore karate, dance, cross-country running, and other sports and movement activities.
Opened in 2006, our new gym regularly fills with cheering fans as our Catherine Cook Cougars compete in interscholastic volleyball and basketball. We also field teams for boys flag football and co-ed soccer. In 2006, Catherine Cook founded the Chicago Association of Middle Schools (CAMS) sports league with our friends from The Ancona School, The British School, Lycée Français, Near North Montessori, and the Chicago Waldorf School. CAMS member schools utilize competitive sports to create a strong learning dynamic that complements their academic programs. Student-athletes learn skills, strategy, leadership, and responsibility, as well as the importance of planning and setting goals. Our no-cut policy ensures that all interested Middle School students have the opportunity to join a team, have fun, develop skills, and demonstrate the ethics of teamwork and sportsmanship that are the hallmarks of our athletics program.
